About Anhui Province

Anhui province is located in eastern China across the basins of the Yangtze River and the Huai River, it borders Jiangsu to the east, Zhejiang to the southeast, Jiangxi to the south, Hubei to the southwest, Henan to the northwest, and Shandong for a tiny section in the north. The capital of the province is Hefei.

The name "Anhui" derives from the names of two cities in south Anhui, Anqing and Huizhou (now Huangshan City). The abbreviation for Anhui is "Wan", because there were historically a State of Wan, a Mount Wan, and a Wan river in the province.

Anhui Tea Introduction

Anhui region has been producing tea for hundreds if not thousands of years. By the 7th century AD, Anhui was exporting tea to the rest of China as well as to other countries, and in the late 19th century began exporting Keemun tea to the West as a basis of many famous blends. Anhui is probably the region having the biggest number of Chinese famous teas. There are at least five Anhui Teas that have once ranked among Chinese Top Ten Famous Teas: Huangshan Mao Feng, Taiping Houkui, Liu'an Gua Pian, Dinggu Da Fang and Keemun Black Tea.

Anhui tea of course refers to the tea produced in Anhui province. In China, people call them as "Hui cha"("徽茶”). Anhui tea mainly originates from the Huang Shan Mountain and Da Bie Shan Mountain, which are located in the southern and western of AnhuiProvince.The special, natural geographical features, clear distinction between seasons, as well as the long history and exquisite manufactural technology of tea production, bring up so many kinds of famous teas. They are well-known in both domestic and oversea market, exported to more than 100 counties. For example, Tunlu Green Tea, With excellent flavor and taste among the same kinds of green tea,Tunlu became well known around 7th century and has been exported abroad in a large scale since the beginning of 16th century, it was once being praised as 'Green Gold' in the West.
